Brian Connor's Evaluation Report

Participant

Clover Ross is another student in the website development class who evaluated my page as an HTML developer. I actually know Clover back from grade school and so when I saw that she was enrolled in this class, I was pleasently surprised. It's been a while since I have had the opportunity to communicate with her. I thought Clover's own website was pretty well done so I was anxious to what he had to say about my website. The type of computer that clover was using was a HP envy running Windows 8 AMD quad core 3.7 GHz 16 GB RAM and using Google Chrome and most likely using DSL connection.

My observed user was Nora Earley. Nora is in my class and she uses an Acer PC operating Windows 10 with Intel Celeron processor 1.60GHz and 2.00 GB RAM. Nora observed my links and made sure they all worked well and that the website context was useful and relevant to the website itself. I wanted her to feel that the website moved fluidly.

My first user tester was Jeffrey Bennett, Jeffrey is another person who is taking the website development class. Jeffrey is a self-certified beer enthusiast, but often teeters on the line of being a certified alcoholic. Just kidding! Only on weekends... But he is passionate about his beer, as displayed by his website. Something we both have in common. I was more interested in Jeffrey reviewing the content of my website, rather than the aesthetic appeal. Jeffrey was using a Apple Mac Air Early 2015 1.5 GHz i5 processor and the Google Chrome web browser. He was connected through his at home Wifi.

My other user tester was Marley Law. Like the previous people who are being evualuated or doing the evaluating, Marley is a student in my web development class. Marley is into beauty and fashion, which she talks about on her website extensively. Marley reviewed my website in terms of design and overall appeal. I thought her comments were helpful and critical, but in a good way. Marley was usingn a Macbook Pro running OS X Intel Core i7 2.9 GHz. She was using your basic Wifi to connect to the internet.

Summary of Evaluator's Comments

Category Average Score
Design 3
Content 4
Credibility 3

From what I can draw from the evaluations that I received, everyone thought that the website had a pretty straight forward layout. They thought that in terms of navigation, all the evaluators thought that the website was very easy to navigate. They liked how all the bar names were in alphabetical order, making it easier to find what they were looking for.

Clover was able to find a few problems with my code, mainly in CSS. She noticed that when she typed my website into the CSS validator, a few errors came up. Both of the errors are parse errors, but that being said, I'm not completely sure how to fix these as of now, but I will definitely try to work those out.

Nora said that everything was pretty easy to find and the links all worked well. The one thing she did say was that some of the context was a little bit cluttered and could be cleaned up to make everything look neater.

Jeffrey, the first user, felt that the content was all relevant and said that I did a good job not going over the top with everything and just keeping it simple. He thought that maybe it could maybe more intuitive if I felt the need for it to be.

Marley, my other user, was asked to evaluate my websites design and overall aesthetic appeal. Prior to asking her to review this to me, I was aware that there could definitely be some improvement in my website. I spent hours trying to add certain backgrounds and make it look sharper, but everytime I tried to do this, I would end up throwing off some other type of code and making things worse/more difficult. Marley said that even though the website was easy to navigate and use, there could definitely be some work done to improve the layout and look of the website. Marley said that the color choices were alright, but believed that adding some graphics would make everything look more professional. She suggested adding a graphic to the headline also and fixing the bottom half of my homepage where all my contact info is so it wasn't the exact same as the main information that I provided on the homepage.

Recommended Changes

From reading the feedback that I was provided, I think it is necessary that I make at least a few changes to improve the overall flow and look of my website

Reflections on Evaluation Process

I thought it was interesting going through the evaluation process and all the different processes that were brought into this evaluation. I thought that I received a lot of good feedback about my website that I wasn't completely aware of already. I went into this thinking that I knew everything that needed fixing for my website and I was happy to be proven wrong. I felt that the more evaluations that I received the more I learned about my website. It's important to get some imput from a large and diverse variety of users, that way you know how your website is received by the general population on the internet. I think some evaluators were more tamed about their opinions in regards to my website than others, but I honestly feel that I got better and more useful information from those who were more critical of my website. The didn't hold anything back and therefore, I got an opinion on every little detail.

With these evaluations, I know know what I need to do in order to make my website more appealing and useful to my target population
